These bans were introduced by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doi.vic.gov.au\/doi\/internet\/home.nsf\/HeadingPagesDisplay\/Contact+Us?opendocument\">Department of Infrastructure<\/a>. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au\/news\/media_releases\/metropolitan_trains\/new_bicycle_guidelines_for_metropolitan_train_services\">Metlink announcement<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.connexmelbourne.com.au\/news.php?newsid=150\">Connex<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Metro areas: Bicycles are not permitted on trams and buses.<br \/>\nBicycles are <strong>not permitted<\/strong> on services travelling through Zone 1 that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>arrive in the Melbourne CBD between 7.00 am and 9.00 am<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>depart the Melbourne CBD between 4.00 pm and 7.00 pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bicycles must not be placed near the first door of the first carriage, as this space is reserved for passengers in wheelchairs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The old rules said &#8220;strongly advised to avoid&#8221;, not &#8220;not permitted&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vline.com.au\/fares\/news\/en\/14\/1173\/article.aspx?\">V\/Line<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bicycles can be carried on V\/Line train services in off peak periods.<\/p>\n<p>Understanding that there is limited space on peak hour trains, bicycles will <strong>not be permitted<\/strong> on peak hour train services.<\/p>\n<p>We advise that even on off peak train services there is limited space for bicycles.<\/p>\n<p>Bicycles are generally not permitted on V\/Line coach services.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As of January 1 2008 bikes were banned from metropolitan and regional trains in Victoria.
